#IADMS2020
Chiba, Japan
Thursday–Sunday, October 22–25, 2020
The IADMS 30th Annual Conference in Chiba, Japan has been cancelled.
Over
the past several weeks, the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) has created
a global public health care crisis, closed borders, universities, and
dance institutions, shaken financial markets, and caused widespread
disruption. As the virus continues to spread, many organizations,
including the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science
(IADMS), have been faced with the extremely difficult decision of
whether to cancel large events due to public health concerns and the
threat of travel restrictions and quarantines.
After long and serious deliberations, the IADMS Board has made the heart-breaking decision not to hold the 30th Annual Conference
scheduled for this October in Chiba, Japan. This decision was made,
first and foremost, with the health and safety of our members and
community in mind. Like many of you, IADMS has been busy preparing for
this highly anticipated event and we thank you all for your patience and
understanding.
Given our
decision to cancel the conference due to these unfortunate
circumstances, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the
local-host committee in Japan for their valued and continued assistance
and support. A special thanks to Mayumi Kuno-Mizumura, who led the local
host committee in Japan. It is our hope that the Japanese Association
for Dance Medicine and Science & IADMS will collaborate again in the
future.
The Board would also like to take this moment to thank all the individuals who submitted and reviewed abstracts for the 30th Annual Conference.
Last, but not least, we would like to thank the many committee members
and staff who contributed to the planning of this event over the past
year.
At this time
we are assessing all available options to connect IADMS members with
one another and facilitate all the important conversations that take
place during the conference. In addition to looking at virtual
opportunities, we will be actively considering options to supplement our
yearly educational offerings with more local regional meetings and
networking events should there be a potential improvement in the
coronavirus outbreak and/or reduced public health concerns.
We recognize
the need for all of us to meet, share ideas, rekindle old friendships
and create new ones, be inspired, sense the flow of new directions in
research, and simply be together in this great family of IADMS. We invite you to share your thoughts, innovations, and knowledge to help us
come together as a community and strengthen our bonds and passion for
dance.
We look forward to seeing you at our next yet-to-be-announced event
and Mark Your Calendars for the
IADMS 31st Annual Conference
Denver, Colorado, USA
October 7-10, 2021
Thank you to all
for your continued commitment, patience, and support of our
long-standing mission!
Sincerely,
Peter Lewton-Brain, DO
